Denmark has passed an emergency law that allows for the government to force people to take a vaccine for coronavirus. The emergency law gives authorities sweeping powers to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and will remain in force until March 2021.

This Perspective combines several data sources over a 20-year span to provide long-term comparisons of Bt adoption with yields and other inputs at both countrywide and state-specific scales. Bt cotton adoption is shown to be a poor indicator of yield trends but a strong indicator of initial reductions in pesticide use. Yield increases correspond to changes in fertilizer and other inputs.

Coronavirus no more deadly than seasonal flu

Despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) hysteria, it is probably no more lethal than the seasonal flu virus, researchers say. Its fatality rate is likely to be around 0.1 percent, 20 times lower than the current reported rate of 2 percent. Some hospitals are already supporting this revised view and have reported fatality rates of around 1.4 percent.
But the true rate could be lower still, and that's because the symptoms can be so mild that people never realise they have been infected; in fact, the true rate of infection could easily be double that being recorded. Interestingly, there have been no cases reported among children under the age of 15 at the time of writing, suggesting either they have special immunity or that symptoms are even milder in children. ...with the seasonal flu claiming around 650,000 lives globally every year, the coronavirus will need to be 20 times more lethal to be even comparable. Far more lethal were the SARS virus, which claimed the lives of around 10 percent of sufferers, and the MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) virus, which has a fatality rate of 36 percent.

The World Health Organization (WHO), a pair of articles recently published in The BMJ have revealed, is sponsoring an experimental study of a controversial malaria vaccine among African children without obtaining informed consent from parents.
Data from prior clinical trials of the vaccine, manufactured by the British multinational pharmaceutical corporation GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), have shown it to be associated with an increased risk of clinical malaria after four years, a tenfold increased risk of meningitis, an increased risk of cerebral malaria (in which the parasitic organisms block the flow of blood to the brain, causing swelling and potential brain damage), and an increased risk of death that was disproportionately higher for female children.
Concerningly, apart from failing to properly inform parents about the risks or even letting parents know that their children are being experimented upon, the WHO intends to make a decision based on this trial about whether to recommend the vaccine for routine use throughout sub-Saharan Africa after just twenty-four months of study, which is not enough time to determine the vaccine’s effect on mortality.
